Meet Cate
I'm so glad you're here. Life comes with many challenges and uncertainties that can feel overwhelming, especially when anxiety, depression, or past trauma begin to affect daily life. I provide a safe, supportive space where we can explore what you're experiencing and work together to improve your emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
Within the therapy relationship, you can focus on yourself, your healing, and growth—without fear of shame or judgment. My approach is strengths-based and centered on helping you recognize your resilience and make meaningful, positive changes at a pace that feels right for you.
I'm a psychotherapist originally from Brazil, with experience providing therapy to diverse clients. My clinical specialties include trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, infertility, and pregnancy and postpartum concerns. I am formally trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and EMDR to address a wide range of complex emotional and life difficulties.
Together, we can work toward practical problem-solving while creating space to process past experiences and build healthy, effective coping skills. I understand that finding the right therapist can feel daunting. Do not let it stop you. I invite you to reach out and schedule a complimentary 15-minute online consultation.

Healing Through Strength and Resilience
Evidence-Based Therapy that Meets You Where You Are
New Mexico Guided Healing is a Rio Rancho, New Mexico therapy practice founded by Cate Kamal-Aldeen, LCSW. Our two therapists provide compassionate, strengths-based, person-centered individual therapy in a welcoming space free from shame or judgment—where you can focus on yourself, your healing, and your growth. We build on what's already working in your life, blend practical problem-solving with room to process past experiences, and honor your pace. Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, a life transition, or the demands of daily life, we’re here to support you.

Treatment Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A structured approach that helps you identify patterns in thought and behavior, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develop concrete strategies for managing anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties. I use CBT to help you understand the connection between what you think, feel, and do—and how changing one can shift the others.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A powerful evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. EMDR helps your brain process difficult memories and experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity and allows healing to occur. This approach is especially effective for those carrying the weight of past trauma.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative, non-judgmental approach that honors your own motivation for change. Rather than telling you what to do, I help you explore your ambivalence, clarify your values, and find the reasons within yourself to move forward—especially valuable for substance use concerns and behavior change.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
This approach helps you clarify what matters most to you and take action aligned with your values, even in the presence of difficult thoughts or feelings. ACT is particularly helpful for managing chronic anxiety, perfectionism, and the struggle against unwanted experiences.
Trauma-Focused and Strength-Based Work
I integrate trauma-informed care with a strengths-based lens, meaning we honor what you've been through while building on the resilience and coping abilities you already possess. This approach recognizes your capacity for healing while respecting the real impact of difficult experiences.
Mindfulness & Mind-Body Integration
Mental health isn't separate from physical health. Alongside mindfulness and somatic techniques, we explore how sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress management shape emotional well-being.
